This is part of the Powered by Docker series, where we feature use cases and success stories from Docker partners and practitioners. This story was contributed by Ryan Wanner. Ryan has more than fifteen years of experience as an entrepreneur and 3 years in AI space developing software and is the founder of Open Source Genius.
Open Source Genius is a start-up dedicated to helping organizations navigate an increasingly AI-powered future by crafting practical, human-centered AI systems. Early in 2025, OSG encountered a common challenge many growing companies face: rapid expansion. With numerous ventures gaining traction, they were generating more AI solutions and supporting documentation. However, as the volume of files grew, so did the accompanying disorganization—misnamed files, cluttered folders, and teams struggling to locate the correct version in Slack.
OSG internally referred to this issue as “entropy debt.” Instead of adding staff or investing in another SaaS tool, they opted for a more intelligent solution: an AI-powered file automation agent leveraging Docker’s MCP Toolkit and Claude Desktop. This innovative approach ultimately saves their team approximately two hours per person weekly, demonstrating the power of efficient software solutions utilizing docker technologies.
Understanding the Challenge: Managing Exponential Growth
Open Source Genius’ mission is ambitious – to generate over $100M in small business value by 2027 through modular solutions. With active projects spanning various ventures, the team consistently produced a stream of critical documents, including mission/vision frameworks, brand guardrails, operational SOPs (like their comprehensive 4-T Resource Manager), concise business one-pagers, compelling pitch decks, and essential reference materials. Therefore, maintaining an organized knowledge base for each venture became a significant bottleneck.
This situation resulted in what OSG termed entropy debt—a drain on time caused by:
- Constantly renaming files to align with ever-evolving conventions.
- Frequently dragging and dropping assets into ad-hoc folders, leading to disorganization.
- Repeatedly seeking the latest version of documents through Slack requests – a common occurrence.
With 15-30 documents routinely landing in downloads folders across multiple business ventures daily, the level of chaos was considerable. Updated pitch decks, revised SOPs, and new brand guidelines all demanded attention, but team members simply lacked the time for proper organization. Consequently, they explored various options to address this escalating problem.
Exploring Potential Solutions
Initially, OSG considered several approaches to tackle the growing disorganization. One option was manually renaming and organizing files, a process that would divert valuable resources from more strategic initiatives. Another possibility involved delegating the task to someone else, which would inevitably add to their existing workload. Furthermore, relying on search functions often proved ineffective, frequently resulting in time-consuming Slack requests for file locations. Ultimately, they recognized that a more automated solution was needed.
The Solution: An AI-Powered File Automation Agent Built with Docker
Open Source Genius developed the Entropy Agent utilizing Claude Desktop and deployed supporting MCP servers on Docker Desktop. This agent automatically organizes, renames, and versions files across all their ventures. The solution leverages the flexibility of docker to ensure easy deployment.
Why Docker MCP Catalog and Toolkit?
As experienced users of docker technologies, the OSG team recognized its potential for this specific use case. The MCP Toolkit streamlined image management and cataloging, simplifying the deployment of their Entropy Agent across diverse environments. This made it considerably easier to ensure consistency.
- Rapid Deployment: Docker Desktop facilitated quick setup and testing iterations.
- Image Management: MCP Catalog ensured consistent image versions and minimized deployment errors, contributing to stability.
- Automation:** The combined technologies enabled automated file organization, significantly reducing the manual workload.
Claude Desktop provided a user-friendly interface for interacting with the Entropy Agent, making it accessible and easy to use for all team members. The entire workflow benefitted from the robust foundation of docker.
Tangible Results and Benefits
The implementation of the Entropy Agent yielded significant benefits for Open Source Genius. The most noticeable improvement was the substantial time savings – an average of two hours per person each week. This freed up valuable resources that could be redirected towards core business objectives and innovation. For example, this additional time can now be used to experiment with new AI models or refine existing solutions.
Beyond the quantifiable time savings, the solution also fostered enhanced team collaboration, minimized errors, and ultimately improved overall productivity. The adoption of docker-based automation proved instrumental in tackling their entropy debt and supporting OSG’s ambitious growth goals.
